I was wondering about camper sealing. I have a pop up that I ordered the dB ultra coating. I have a seam at the base of the roof that is fiberglass roof meeting Painted aluminum trim. The factory sealed it but I’m not sure what it is. It’s harder than the butyl on the rest of the seams. I was wondering what product I can use to seal (after cleaning out the old sealer) this seam prior to coating with your product. I was thinking filling the gap with JB weld epoxy liquid steel then letting your coating cover the JB. Will your coating stick to JB weld? Maybe you know of something better. Thanks

While our Diamondback Ultra Liner can also be thickened with the Poly Powder to the consistency of a paste and used as a seam sealant, you might not end up with enough to properly cover the general surface.

JB Weld is usually a very rigid epoxy, and while it can be painted after curing (about 24 hours), it might not be flexible enough to simply seam 2 dissimilar materials. Over time, the epoxy may lose adhesion. You need something which remains somewhat flexible, but not a silicone product. Silicone can sometimes be “paintable”, but never actually bonds with even the best of primers.

A Google search for “paintable seam sealer” will provide a number of options, but you really should simply contact your local automotive finishes supplier to get professional advice. They carry products used by the pros, and even if you pay $5 or so more for a tube, it would be worth the time and cost. Just do a search for “automotive paint supplier near me”, and focus on the actual suppliers, not the body shops. There should be a couple nearby.

Be sure to follow the manufacturer directions regarding cure time and prep. Whatever is required to prepare for paint is required to coat with the Seal Tite Ultra.
