What’s the difference between your DIY and your cartridge products?
Question:
What are the differences between SL&C brand DIY coatings, and your Rhino/Line-X Alternative cartridge products? Which one is best for truck beds and vehicle exteriors?
Answer:
- Our polyurea product formulated to be applied without expensive spray equipment is the RLA cartridge based product. This material is dry to the touch in a minute, and cures in about an hour. It requires a cartridge spray gun (we sell for about $525) along with other specific compressor and safety equipment. You may wish to view the instructions at: Polyurea RLA Spray Cartridge Instructions for more specifics. In general, the cost of application per sq. ft. per mil is similar to the DIY type products. For businesses, the profit margin is similar to our standard SL&C products other than the gun cost. This product has better performance than Rhino Linings and is similar to the standard Line-X bedliner product. Using this material allows a professional applicator to do same day turnover. Any texturing is under the control of spray techniques, not by adjusting the product itself.
- The DIY products have excellent performance and can be modified in texture, color, flexibility by adjusting the formula itself in addition to spray techniques. These products are very effective in most applications, but are not the “true polyurea” Line-X bedliner material. In order to be DIY capable, they have an average pot life of 15-20 minutes after combining A and B products and are sprayed in small batches by texture hopper or HVLP spray gun. Air compressor requirements are only 5 cfm at 90 psi versus the absolute minimum of 10 cfm at 110 psi for the cartridge products. Main drawback is simply that for 80% cure, you will have to wait approximately 8 hours. We recommend 24 hours before general purpose use when applied as a bedliner. As an exterior coating, or roof application such as for RVs, allowing to cure overnight is sufficient to deliver to your customer if doing professionally.
- We also have a wide variety of products which are not on the Spray Lining and Coatings Storefront including polyureas, polyurethanes, specialty silicon coatings, and others. These coatings not only include the commercially applied high or low pressure polyurea coatings, but many General Application (can be applied by any available means) coatings as well. Diamondback Linings specializes in commercial quality coatings for not only the small business, but individuals as well.
