What is the poly powder additive?
Question:
I see your kits include “Poly Powder”. What is this product, and how do I use it?
Answer:
The DIY products are often 3 part products which consist of 2 parts A and 1 part B (liquid products) along with a variable part C which is either a finer powder product, or coarser product depending on the texture desired. The Poly Powder (part C) consist of either micronized SBR rubbers, or finely ground EPDM rubbers depending on type of powder included.
These powder additives allow you to thicken to whatever consistency you need. This allows you to apply thicker individual coats on the vertical surfaces. You can also obtain more texture control by using the powders. Even if not applying a texture coat, the coarser powders still create a bit of orange peel texture if the final coat is somewhat thinner.
Most of the Poly Powders are dark grey in color, so they are not advised for final color coat in colors other than grey or black. The EPDM Poly Powder products are light grey or white, and can be color tinted to some degree. We also have our MaxCoat additive to thicken colors which require our clear coating products.
We can provide more specific recommendations regarding your application and product if you would like to get in touch with SL&C.
