Is SL&C Bedliner hazardous?
Question:
Is SL&C Bedliner hazardous?
Answer:
SL&C DIY Poly hybrid products have no isocyanates, no VOC. These products are available to ship to and be applied in all 50 states (including California). They are safe once mixed according to instructions, but may be hazardous to the environment while in liquid form. They are also classified as an oxidizer, so are unsafe for air transport.
Part C Poly Powder included with most DIY packages is made of high quality SBR rubbers, and is safe for all applications using only basic respiratory protection. Similar to commercial grade tires, the synthetic blend rubbers are not considered hazardous in general.
In dealership grade or big job pure polyurea products applied through high pressure or fusion-like systems, within parts A and B, part A is an isocyanate, which is considered moderately toxic. Once combined, these products also are considered non-toxic, but have specific warnings while in liquid state.
All products being applied by spray technique have related safety concerns. You are always recommended to use proper protection to avoid exposure to eyes, or inhaling spray mist, dust from additives, etc. Fast curing products (such as our Rhino / Line-X Alternative or other polyurea) should also have full face mask. Therefore, for any two parts polyurea including our cartridge based products, full respirator suit and/or paint booth are advised.
