Can SL&C Bedliner be painted over?
Question:
Can your Spray Lining and Coatings products be painted over?
Answer:
Yes… Using our Tintable Bedliner Kit with quality single part, single stage automotive paint to provide the color is your best choice for exact match to your vehicle. This will provide true truck bedliner protection versus simply painting the surface. After spraying the bedliner, some individuals also apply a top coat of just the automotive paints to ensure a completely seamless finished result with long term UV color stability.
If you are changing the color of an existing bedliner, we would recommend first apply the same Tintable bedliner kit before the final coat of automotive paint. Just spraying the automotive paint would work, but wouldn’t have any more scratch resistance than the paint provides.
Remember… automotive paint applies thin (under 3 mils generally). This does not protect against scratches or abrasion. Our color topcoats and tintable bedliner is designed to apply at approximately 15 mils or more. We usually recommend at least 45 mil on truck beds and 20 or more mils on vehicle exteriors.
