What is the temperature required?
Question:
Do SL&C coatings need to be applied at a certain temperature?
Answer:
There is no specific temperature required to spray our products, but lower temperatures require longer to cure, and longer between coats. We generally recommend you plan to apply with surface temperatures between 75 to 90 degrees. This will allow you to have the most reliable results when following our instructions. Temperatures below 70 can take much longer to cure, and wait time on vertical coats can be over 4 hours.
The temperature of the actual product can also affect both your cure times, and the pot life of your batches. If your coatings are allowed to warm over 85 degrees before you mix them, you may find that the pot life is much shorter. In that case, you should apply smaller batches. These products generate heat as they cure, and the heat will accelerate the process. Also, larger batches generate more heat in addition to taking longer to spray.
The surface temperature isn’t as important when spraying our Rhino/Line-X Alternative polyurea products. The cartridges should be warmed up more than our standard SL&C products however. We advise the cartridges be warmed to a minimum of 80 degrees for at least 3 hours before spraying to avoid clogging in the mixing tube.
Always follow the recommendations, and call our technical support 855-545-4900 option 3 before you start spraying if you have any questions.
