Question:

My finished project looks a little blotchy… what can I do?

Answer:

We usually see this for one of 2 reasons, and only when it is applied in smaller batches over a larger area. One reason is that the A products were not thoroughly recombined before mixing with the B. When only part of a can of A is poured without recombining, it will have different elements than the next batch and cure differently. Always remix the A product before mixing with B.

The next cause is usually not enough mixing time for the A and B. We recommend a full 3 minutes of mixing with a helix mixer (hand mixing is not advised and takes longer… which cuts into your pot life). Minimum A/B mixing time is 2 minutes before adding powder, then another 2 minutes after adding any powder and lacquer thinner.

Also… inconsistent ratios of powder to liquid, or lacquer thinner can do this.

Best fix… simply combine some A and B with little or no powder, and little or no lacquer thinner and spray or roll a touch-up coat over the entire area. If you need more A or B product, contact us directly so we can provide the most economical option base on your needs.

NOTE: When applying additional coats after full cure, we recommend you first feel the surface to ensure no oily film is present, mixing inconsistencies sometimes cause a slight “blush” to occur and could slightly reduce the adhesion of the top coat. Simply lightly wash the surface with water and a bit of mild detergent to remove any film and dry after rinsing any detergent which may remain.
