Question:

My air compressor can’t keep up with the texture hopper. It keeps loosing pressure, and I have to wait before continuing. Can your Seal Tite products be applied by brush or roller instead?

Answer:

Our Seal Tite koi pond coatings can be applied by brush or roller as well as spray gun. As long as you can wait a little longer before second coats, you will often find this the best method to apply them. For best results if applying by roller, you will need a roller with as thin a nap as possible, but not a foam type roller. Usually no more than 3/8 inch nap (1/4 inch is better). This helps avoid too coarse a texture if you are thickening with our Poly Powder. You can also spread out with a roller, then lightly go over the surface with a brush to knock down the texture if it doesn’t self level.

Foam rollers will dissolve if using lacquer thinner, so avoid those, or plan to discard after each use. If you are thickening our Seal Tite coatings due to especially high powder ratio, you may require lacquer thinner in your mix. In this case, you may find that foam rollers dissolve during applying the actual coating.

You may want to plan on tossing any roller or brush instead of cleaning. It may be difficult to fully clean the Seal Tite without a lot of lacquer thinner. At least be prepared to buy another before the next coat. Sometimes, you can put the roller or brush in the refrigerator between coats if using our standard Seal Tite products. The lower temps will slow the curing process, and you may be able to reuse for your additional coats.

If using our commercial DB-1081 product line, thinning is not recommended, so you could probably use a foam roller. Expect to throw away the roller after each use since curing of this product isn’t slowed as much at lower temperatures.
