Do you have simple instructions to apply the Color Match Bedliner?
Question:
I want to buy the Color Match Bedliner for my truck. That should allow me to do more than one color. Do you have instructions on how to use this DIY kit?
Answer:
The basic instructions for most of out coatings are available at our Spray Polyurea Instructions page. As noted in the instructions, this is generally a 2 process application, and the process is outlined below:
- You will first be mixing 1 part A White, 1 part A Grey, 1 part BR as instructed in smaller batches, and adding the finer (lp80) and/or coarser (lp40) powders to thicken as desired to spray out of the hopper gun. This allows a higher build on the base coat than you could accomplish without the powder additive. You can also thin with lacquer thinner if it is too thick to spray properly.
- After the base coat has set to a generally solid but somewhat tacky consistency (usually 1-2 hours), you can mix 2 parts A Clear with 1 part BR and your single stage, single part auto grade paint which you purchased locally (if not included in your specific kit) for the color you want. No powder is added to the top coat. This can be applied with the hopper gun using the smaller tip, but oftentimes is best applied with an HVLP gun.
To avoid wasting expensive product, we often recommend individuals who haven’t used a hopper gun for coatings such as these experiment a bit with other materials such as drywall texture compound found at home supply stores. This allows them to get a feel for how thick to mix the product and how to adjust the air pressure based on their compressor. You can then simply wash out the water based drywall compound and dry thoroughly before starting their coating project.
