Question:

I have a pop up camper which needs the roof repaired. Will your coatings work, and how much would it cost for me to spray a bedliner coating on my camper roof in black?

Answer:

A typical truck bedliner is recommended to be about 63 mils thick on the horizontal, and about 45 mils on the sides. For a durable coating on something like your camper, we would usually recommend 30 mils, but you could probably do OK with about 20 mils. The thickness determines how much product you need. While you could cover the entire 160 sq ft with one gallon, that would only be 10 mils thick using our 100% solids products. Other coatings like Raptor are only 57% (or less) solids, so you would need 1 ¾ gallons for the same thickness.

For 30 mils, you would need 3 gallons, for 20 mils, you would need 2 gallons total product. Our products generally include some portion of our Poly Powder additive as part of the total volume to thicken for fewer required coats (probably 1 coat in your application), and to cut your overall cost. The powders are much less expensive than the liquids. These powders are not required, and we can quote any order without them altogether if you like.

  Our standard SL&C brand bedliner products
  • These are 2 part products which are a 2:1 (A:B) mix, and can be in almost any color. They also can be combined with up to 50% powder (e.g. 1 gallon total liquid : 1 gallon powder). For your application, we would recommend the more flexible version of this product.
• Our Diamondback Linings Ultra Liner
  • This product is only available in Black, and it has much greater overall durability than even our standard bedliner with excellent flex, tensile strength, and abrasion resistance. It is a very thick 2 part 1:1 product, and can only be mixed with and additional 33% powder. It is more glossy than our product line, although both will have some level of gloss. It includes a significant amount of other additives, including Kevlar for the closest match to coatings sprayed with high pressure proportioners.

The standard products would cost $192.00 plus shipping for 3 gallons ( 1 ½ gallons liquids, 1 ½ gallons powders)

The DB Ultra would cost $277.00 plus shipping for 3 gallons (2 gallons liquids, 1 gallon powder)

Although slightly higher in cost, the Ultra Liner would be best for overall durability, but either product would provide excellent protection.
